“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”

“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”

“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”

Breakfast at ILA

Happiness is…. breakfast.

I’m undeniably in love with it.  I mean why wouldn’t I be? A meal where you never feel guilty (no matter how much you eat) and a meal where it’s okay to have sweet and savoury all day long, is the true epitome of bliss.

My family and I enjoy breakfast all over Dubai, in fact we’ve made it our mission to find those pockets of perfection for the first meal of the day.  It’s a tough job (!) but somebody had to take up the challenge.  One of our recent finds has been a peaceful spot at Al Seef called Ila.  I like to venture out of my comfort zone and Al seef delivered.  I’ve found happiness isn’t just food, it’s the people that make the place.  What hooked me in at Ila were the little acts of kindness; the waitress moves an umbrella to ensure your little ones are in the shade, the manager helps to manoeuvre the pram up a couple of steps, the staff bring out some activities in the play area to keep the tikes entertained.

Now onto the food, from fabulous falafels and fateer (an Egyptian filo pastry) to astonishing shakshuka (superman aka husband says it’s the best he’s ever tasted – praise indeed).  Boats of freshly baked breads accompany this myriad of delights.  Ila by definition means “to” in Arabic, as in a destination.  We have certainly arrived.
